Cookie Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
This page lists every cookie and browser-storage key ZetaGames uses. It is the detailed companion to section 5 of our Privacy Policy — the two never disagree, because both are generated from the same list.
2. Essential cookies we set
These are required for the service to function. They cannot be turned off from the cookie banner, because without them you could not sign in or stay signed in safely.
| Cookie | What it does | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| session_token | Keeps you signed in. HTTP-only so scripts cannot read it; only a hashed copy exists on our servers. | 7 days |
| csrf_token | Protects your account from cross-site request forgery on state-changing actions. | Session |
Both are first-party cookies set by zetagames.net — they are not readable by any other site.
3. Local storage on your device
These entries stay in your browser and are never sent to our servers. They exist so the site remembers your preferences between visits.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| zetagames_cookie_consent | Remembers your choice on the cookie banner so we stop asking. |
| recentlyPlayed | Powers the “Recently Played” row. |
| soundEnabled | Whether game sound is on. |
| sidebarVisible | Whether the sidebar is expanded. |
| zg_v4_reduced_motion | Your reduced-motion accessibility preference. |
| zetanotif_last_check | Avoids showing you the same notification twice. |
Individual games may additionally save their own progress or high scores to your browser storage. That data belongs to the game, stays on your device, and is cleared when you clear site data.
4. Third-party cookies
We currently set no third-party cookies. Specifically, ZetaGames does not use:
- Advertising or ad-retargeting cookies of any kind.
- Google Analytics, or any comparable page-analytics product.
- Social media pixels or share-tracking widgets.
- Cross-site tracking or data-broker identifiers.
Two providers can, however, set or read storage as part of delivering the service: Supabase, which holds your authentication session, and Sentry, our error monitor, which attaches an identifier to crash reports. Sentry's optional session replay only runs if you accepted non-essential cookies, and is masked before it leaves your browser.
If this ever changes: introducing advertising would mean third-party advertising cookies, and we would update this page and the Privacy Policy — and ask for your consent again — before serving the first ad.
5. Your choice and how it is enforced
On your first visit you can choose "Accept all" or "Essential only". Dismissing the banner counts as essential-only. Your choice is enforced in two independent places:
- In your browser — the site stops sending non-essential events, and session replay is never started.
- On our server — analytics events that arrive without recorded consent are rejected and never written to the database, so a client-side bypass achieves nothing.
One narrow exception: an end-of-session marker is always recorded, because we rely on it to detect cheating and keep leaderboards honest. It records that a play session ended, not what you did during it.
6. Managing cookies in your browser
You can delete or block cookies at any time from your browser settings. Blocking our two essential cookies will prevent you from signing in, but browsing and playing as a guest will still work.
- Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies → See all site data and permissions.
- Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data.
- Safari — Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.
To be asked about cookies again, clear site data for zetagames.net and reload — the banner reappears because the record of your previous choice is gone.
7. Changes and contact
If we add or remove a cookie, this page changes with it and the "last updated" date moves. Material changes — such as introducing a new category of cookie — will be announced on the site and will re-prompt you for consent.
